High school sports roundup for Tuesday, Jan. 14

Brooke Kuffel scored 13 points to lead Crystal Lake South in a Fox Valley Conference win over McHenry, 41-33, on Tuesday in Crystal Lake. Kuffel made 7 of 10 free throws. Emily Rich scored nine points and Allie Schoen scored seven for South (11-8, 5-3).

The Warriors (17-4, 5-3) could not overcome a slow start after trailing 21-10 at halftime. Katie Beyer scored 15 points for McHenry. Beyer scored 11 in the second half. Ava Interrante contributed 13 points, scoring nine in the second half.

Burlington Central 41, Prairie Ridge 30: At Burlington, Karsen Karlblom scored 13 points, making three 3-pointers, for the Wolves in an FVC loss to Burlington Central. Emma Kay contributed five points for Prairie Ridge (7-11, 2-6).

Kat Schmidt led Burlington Central (15-3, 7-2) with with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Cary-Grove 42, Jacobs 25: At Cary, Emily Lukowski made 7 of 8 free throws and scored 20 points for the Trojans (8-9, 1-7) in an FVC win. Grace Clarke contributed nine points and Kate Larry scored four.

For Jacobs (4-13, 1-7), Mackenzie Leahy scored 14 points, making five field goals and going 4 of 7 at the free throw line. Courtney Durben scored six points.

Dundee-Crown 57, Crystal Lake Central 35: At Carpentersville, D-C (14-3, 8-0) defeated Central (4-14, 1-7) in FVC play. The Chargers maintained a two-game lead in the FVC standings.

Dixon 56, Woodstock 32: At Woodstock, Erin Lockwood scored 13 points for the Blue Streaks in a nonconference loss. Emma Brand added 10 points for Woodstock (6-12).

Alden-Hebron 48, Rockford Christian Life 16: At Hebron, Rachel Pahl scored 20 points for A-H (6-9, 1-1) in a Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Pahl made eight field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Kendra Cashmore scored eight points. Anna Webber, Karly Strand and Abby Wanderer each scored six points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Crystal Lake South 35, McHenry 30: At McHenry, the Gators held off McHenry’s comeback attempt for an FVC win. McHenry outscored South, 13-5, in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t close the gap enough.

South’s Tyler Miller scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Brock Jewson and Cooper LePage each added six points for South (8-8, 2-4).

Matt Gallimore made three 3s and led McHenry (3-12, 1-6) with nine points. Brett Loeding and Adam Benton each scored eight points.

Woodstock 56, Harvard 46: At Harvard, Nick Weber made 11 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter to help Woodstock seal a Kishwaukee River Conference win. Weber made 12 of 16 total free throws and scored 14 total points. Javier Garay scored 10 points and Nate Archambeau added eight for Woodstock (3-12, 1-1).

For Harvard (2-12, 0-2), Damon Mueller scored 16 points. Austin Kohley added 10 and Christian Rojas scored eight.

Rockford Christian Life 58, Alden-Hebron 36: At Hebron, Mikey Ellison made 10 of 15 free throws and scored 24 points for A-H (3-9, 0-3) in a Northeastern Athletic Conference loss. Justin Gritmacker added 10 points, shooting 8 for 10 from the free-throw line.
