A 35-year-old Crystal Lake man accused of entering another man’s home and stabbing him multiple times pleaded not guilty Friday to attempted murder and other charges.
Michael A. Vrba, of the 300 block of Millard Avenue, entered the plea in court Friday morning beside his attorney, McHenry County Assistant Public Defender Angelo Mourelatos.
On Wednesday, a McHenry County grand jury approved felony charges of attempted murder, home invasion, aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery and residential burglary, prosecutors said.
Vrba was arrested Jan. 10 in connection with a reported stabbing in the 600 block of Acorn Court, Crystal Lake.
McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies surrounded the area at
6:22 a.m. Jan. 9, when they discovered a 29-year-old Crystal Lake man suffering from apparent knife wounds, police have said.
Vrba, who previously lived with the 29-year-old, is accused of entering the home without permission and stabbing the man in the neck, ribs and chest, charging documents show.
The victim was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital before being flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in serious condition.
An update on his condition was not available Friday.
Vrba remained at the McHenry County Jail on Friday afternoon on $1 million bond.
The most serious charge against Vrba, attempted murder, is a Class X felony typically punishable by as many as 20 years in prison.
Vrba’s next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 28.
