A McHenry man accused of barricading himself in a Crystal Lake apartment Friday had previously filmed and photographed himself sexually assaulting a child, police said.

Matthew Reder, 24, of the 500 block of Sunrise Street, was on parole for a for a 2016 residential burglary out of Iroquois County when he surrendered himself to police Friday, Illinois Department of Corrections records show. After being sentenced to four years in prison in 2016, Reder was released on parole Feb. 23, 2018. About 1½ years later, police said Reder filmed and photographed himself engaging in sexual activity with a child who was younger than 13 years old. The alleged sexual assault took place on Oct. 1, according to one criminal complaint.

Reder is scheduled to make his first court appearance Tuesday morning at the McHenry County courthouse in Woodstock. He is charged with criminal trespass to building, resisting a peace officer, aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, predatory criminal sexual assault and production and possession of child pornography.

Reder faces an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance after police said he possessed less than 30 grams of ecstasy the day of his arrest. Two weeks earlier, a DuPage County judge issued a warrant for Reder’s arrest, citing charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to signal, online records show.

If convicted of the most serious offense, predatory criminal sexual assault of child younger than 13, Reder could be sentenced to between six and 30 years in prison.

He remained at the McHenry County Jail Monday evening on a $520,000 bond. He would need to post $52,000 bail to secure his release.

Reder had not hired an attorney nor had one been appointed to represent him as of Monday evening.
