Here's a look at the Harvard vs. Sandwich dual at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the IHSA Class 1A Rock Falls Dual Team Sectional.
(Note: Dual lineups can and often do change. This matchup is not guaranteed.)
Sandwich had only one state qualifier, but Evan Reilly gave Harvard state runner-up Nik Jimenez something of a battle at 126 in the Class 1A Oregon Individual Sectional semifinals. Jimenez won, 5-0. Jimenez (47-1) didn’t lose this season until the state championship match in Champaign. If Reilly can keep it close again, this could be an intriguing bout.
Harvard coach David Schultz on Tuesday’s opponent: “Sandwich is going to be a really tough team. They’ve got solid guys, solid fundamentals. They’re very well-coached. On paper, they look a lot like us. I think it’s going to be a tough dual.”
DUAL TEAM HISTORY
Both of these programs have long histories at dual team state. Sandwich has qualified 11 times and brought home 10 trophies, including four state titles. The program hasn’t been back since 2012.
Harvard has qualified 13 times, taking home six trophies and two state titles. The Hornets are trying to reach dual team state for the first time since 2014, which was longtime coach Tim Haak’s final season.
