Here's a look at the Marian Central vs. Deerfield dual at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the IHSA Class 2A Fenton Dual Team Sectional.
(Note: Dual lineups can and often do change. This matchup is not guaranteed.)
Marian has four individual state medalists in a row in its lineup at 120, 126, 132 and 138. Deerfield will need to find a way to, at the very least, limit the damage during that stretch.
At the Class 2A Deerfield Individual Sectional, Marian’s Elon Rodriguez beat Deerfield’s Lucas Wittkamp at 120 in the semifinals. It was an 8-4 victory for Rodriguez, who went on to finish as state runner-up. If they square off again, it could be a match to keep an eye on.
Marian coach David Silva on his lineup: “We’re kind of just playing it as the match unfolds. We may make some changes, but we’ve been successful doing what we’ve been doing all year with our lineup.”
DUAL TEAM HISTORY
Marian has qualified for dual team state each of the past two years, after never previously winning a regional. The Hurricanes finished third in Class 2A last season and are ranked No. 1 in Class 2A by the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association.
Deerfield has twice qualified – 2015 and 2017, both in 3A – and brought home a fourth-place trophy in 2017.
