The Marengo Fire Protection District and police department responded to a report of an accident discharge of a firearm with injuries that were not life threatening Thursday morning at Marengo Guns.
Chief John Kimmel said a man was taken to the hospital with injuries to his hand.
“From my understanding, it was just a graze wound,” Kimmel said.
Kimmel said the Marengo Police Department is investigating the incident.
Andrew Kjellgren, public information officer for the Marengo Police Department, said a customer at Marengo Guns was trying to reholster a firearm, and in the process of doing so he shot himself.
There was nothing that was actually penetrated, Kjellgren said.
An ordinance violation for discharge of firearm was issued to Randolph Illg, 73, of the 17000 block of Kunde Road in Union.
Marengo Guns did not answer a phone request seeking comment on Thursday.
