Letter: So shines a good deed in a weary world

To the Editor:

The streets are eerily silent. Not a car in sight. Everyone quarantined to their homes. Each one trying to do what’s right.

Around the world the COVID-19 virus spreads faster than the flu. Infecting the young and the old alike. What more can we do?

Lord, You say that if Your people who are called by Your name will humble themselves, seek Your face, turn from their wicked ways and pray.

You will hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land. For this I ask today.

Turn the hearts of the people, Lord. Show us the error of our ways. Restore order to this planet. Bring back the peaceful days.

We’re like the nasty children of Willie Wonka’s Charlie & the Chocolate Factory.
We’re greedy, selfish and prideful and completely mesmerized by technology.

Here’s what Mr. Willie Wonka told Charlie When he asked about the other children there: “They’ll all be restored to their terrible, nasty selves BUT maybe a little wiser for the wear.”

Soon the virus will be over. Gone like the toilet paper from the shelves. But will we be content to be restored to our terrible, nasty selves?

Or can we choose to be like Charlie Bucket “So shines a good deed in a weary world.” Mr. Wonka would say. With God all things are possible. In Jesus’ name I pray.
