A kitchen fire at a Crystal Lake residence left a home in the 4900 block of Kenneth Drive uninhabitable on Tuesday evening.
Crystal Lake firefighters were dispatched at 6:23 p.m. and, upon arrival, found a fire in the first floor of the home. The fire was extinguished and under control within 25 minutes, but the home sustained what was estimated to be about $150,000 worth of damages.
A box alarm was called, and firefighters from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Barrington-Countryside, Carpentersville, Cary, Huntley, Marengo, McHenry Township Nunda Rural, Union, West Dundee, Wonder Lake and Woodstock responded to the scene, assisting Crystal Lake Fire and the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
Traffic was stopped on a section of Pingree Road, and all traffic was stopped on Kenneth Drive while firefighters responded.
The cause of the kitchen fire still is undetermined. No injuries were reported from the fire but the home sustained fire, smoke and water damage and is now uninhabitable.
