Lake County coroner identifies men who died in Wauconda crash

The two men who died in a crash Thursday in Wauconda were identified by Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper on Friday as Kyle DeKruif, 25, of Island Lake and Montana Brown, 24, of Gurnee.

Both men died of blunt force injuries caused by a motor vehicle crash, according to preliminary autopsy results. Toxicology results are pending.

The Wauconda Police Department responded to a crash involving a Honda Odyssey and a Freightliner delivery truck at 2:16 a.m. Thursday.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the Honda Odyssey was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Route 12 when it collided head-on with the delivery truck, according to the coroner’s office.

The 23-year-old male driver of the delivery truck was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The Odyssey was driven by DeKruif and occupied by Brown. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The investigation into both deaths continues by our office, the Wauconda Police Department and the [Lake County] Major Crash Assistance Team,” Cooper said. “We have been in close contact with both families, and our deepest condolences go out to them during this difficult time. This is truly a tragedy.”
