The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association on Wednesday released its list of District Coaches of the Year for the four classes.
In boys basketball, Marengo’s Nate Wright won the Class 2A Coach of the Year for District 6 after leading the Indians to a 27-5 record and a sectional championship appearance, where they fell to Wheaton Academy.
Marengo also went 10-0 to win the Kishwaukee River Conference.
In Class 4A, Cary-Grove’s Adam McCloud and Huntley’s Will Benson won Coach of the Year honors in District 6. C-G went 31-3 under McCloud, won the Fox Valley Conference and the C-G Regional, its second regional championship in school history.
Benson took the Red Raiders to second place in the FVC and their first regional title since 2014. They tied their school victories record.
In Class 3A, Hampshire’s Mike Featherly received Coach of the Year honors in District 6. In his first season as boys coach after leading Hampshire’s girls team for six years, Featherly guided the Whip-Purs to a 22-11 mark and a fourth-place finish in the FVC.
The Whips won a 3A regional title and had advanced to the Boylan Sectional championship game before the season was stopped because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In girls basketball, Dundee-Crown’s Sarah Miller was honored in District 5 for 4A. Miller’s team won the FVC title and finished with a 26-7 mark and a sectional title.
In Class 3A, Burlington Central’s Collin Kalamatas, in his first year with the Rockets, took the District 5 honor. Kalamatas led Burlington to second place in the FVC, won a regional title and finished 29-5.
