Huntley wrestler David Ferrante brought home a bit more hardware to add to his trophy case.
The Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association named Ferrante the 2020 Class 3A Outstanding Wrestler and the 2020 Class 3A Scholastic Wrestler of the Year. According to the IWCOA, Ferrante is just the third wrestler to win both these awards.
Outstanding Wrestler was voted upon by IWCOA membership, while Scholastic Wrestler of the Year was selected by the IWCOA executive board.
The IWCOA’s spring banquet in late April was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Ferrante won his second consecutive Class 3A individual state championship at 170 pounds in February. The two-time state champion is the first wrestling champion in Huntley history, and will wrestle next year at Northwestern.
Huntley referee Mike Bondi was also honored as the IWCOA's Official of the Year.
