Crystal Lake police investigating burglary at local jewelry store

Police say it is an isolated incident

Crystal Lake police are investigating a burglary to a local jewelry store in the area of Keith Avenue and Route 14, where Nelson’s Jewelry is located, according to a local Ring update.

In an email, Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Thomas Kotlowski confirmed that the police did respond to a burglary on Monday night. He said this is an isolated incident.

“A witness called police after seeing a subject breaking the front glass and entering the business,” Kotlowski said. “Officers arrived within one minute; however, the offender[s] had already fled.”

Kotlowski said it is unknown exactly what was taken, or an estimated value, at this time. Officers collected evidence on scene, and recovered some of the stolen property when they searched the area.

“The case is considered ongoing and the public is encouraged to provide any information they may have to assist,” Kotlowski said.

In the Ring message, police asked anyone living in the Keith, Jackman, Harold, Eugene court area who has video from about 10:30 p.m. June 1 until 12:30 a.m. to share it with them. Those who see any items lyying in their yard that seem suspicious also can contact the police department at 815-356-3620.
