A male motorcyclist died in Crystal Lake and the driver of the other vehicle is being charged with driving under the influence after a collision on Tuesday afternoon, Crystal Lake police said.
Crystal Lake Police and Fire/Rescue responded 4:38 p.m. to Route 31 south of Drake Drive for a report of a traffic crash with injuries.
An investigation revealed a black SUV, driven by Robert Roth, 69, of Crystal Lake, collided with a silver SUV. Both vehicles were traveling north on Route 31.
The silver SUV then crossed into the southbound lane of traffic, where it collided with a motorcycle being driven by an adult male.
The motorcyclist was taken to Northwestern Hospital in McHenry, where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family members, police said.
Roth was arrested and charged with an aggravated DUI of a motor vehicle involved in a traffic crash, resulting in the death of another person; aggravated DUI of a motor vehicle involved in a traffic crash which resulted in the death of a another person with a blood alcohol level of over 0.08; a DUI with a blood alcohol level of over 0.08; and a DUI.
Roth was transported to McHenry County Jail to await a bond hearing.
His next court date is 9 a.m. June 18.
This event remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Accident Investigation Team and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
