To the Editor:
Donald Trump should resign for the good of the country.
The last time our country had such serious civil unrest was the anti-war protests in 1968. During that year, Lyndon Johnson decided not to run for re-election as President and to focus on running the country and getting the United States out of the Vietnam war. Although he would not have been re-elected as President, he believed it best for the country if he focused on the country’s problems.
Our country is now facing two serious problems. Trump has completely botched-up our country’s response to the corona virus and is mentally and emotionally unstable enough to provide the leadership needed with the current protests/demonstrations.
He lacks basic values of honesty and empathy. Two major lies (“releasing tax returns”and “Mexico paying for the wall”) are compounded by his daily untruths which lead to an inability to lead. He was impeached for trying to subvert our democracy and constitution and will not be re-elected.
If he is capable of putting the country’s interests ahead of his own gigantic ego, he should resign now and let Vice President Pence lead. Trump could then play more golf, Twitter his opinions and far out conspiracies, and the United States could better attempt to recover from these two major problems - and his 3 and 1/2 years of inept leadership.
