Basketball: Huntley grad Amanze Egekeze signs contract with French pro team

Former Huntley basketball player Amanze Egekeze announced Thursday via Instagram that he has signed a professional contract with Gries Oberhoffen in France.

Egekeze, a 6-foot-8 forward, played Division I college basketball at Belmont, helping the Bruins win 89 games in four years and reach the 2015 NCAA Tournament. He most recently played professionally for PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece, seeing action in 20 games.

Egekeze averaged about 15 points and seven rebounds a game in 2018-19 while playing among three teams in Japan: the Yokohama B-Corsairs, Ryukyu and Niigata Albirex.

Gries Oberhoffen plays in France’s second-tier, the LNB Pro B league. The team is based in Gries, France, in the northeast corner of France, near the border with Germany.

Egekeze, a native of Lake in the Hills, was the 2014 Northwest Herald Boys Basketball Player of the Year. His younger brother, Uchenna Egekeze, helped Huntley win its first regional title since 2014 in March.
