IDPH announces 786 new cases of COVID-19, 26 deaths on Saturday

Illinois announced 26 additional deaths from COVID-19 and 786 more confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus on Saturday.

The Illinois Department of Public Health said that 2.6% of 30,237 tests total tests in the previous 24 hours came back positive. Saturday marked the third straight day with more than 30,000 tests.

Illinois has now seen 141,077 total cases of the virus and 6,873 people have died. A total of 1,521,189 people have been tested.

As of late Thursday night, of those currently hospitalized, 400 were in the ICU and 225 were on ventilators. The IDPH did not provide an update to hospitalization numbers on Saturday.

Chicago has seen 51,728 confirmed cases of COVID-19, while the rest of Cook County has seen 37,679.

Lake County has seen 9,608 confirmed cases, DuPage 8,919, Kane 7,604, Will 6,577, McHenry 1,991, Kendall 946, DeKalb 537, Ogle 247, La Salle 205, Whiteside 183, Grundy 160, Lee 97, Bureau 24 and Carroll 21.

Regional update: As of Saturday, the Northeast region (Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, McHenry, Lake and Will counties) reported a positivity rate average of 5%. The region reported an average of 33% of medical/surgical beds available, 43% of ICU beds available and 74% of ventilators available.

The North Central region (Bureau, DeKalb, La Salle, Lee, Ogle, Whiteside, Carroll, Boone, Winnebago, Stephenson, Putnam and Jo Daviess counties) reported a positivity rate rolling average of 3%. On average, the region has enough medical/surgical beds to accommodate a 47% surge in COVID-19 cases. The region reported that 59% of ICU beds are available and 78% of ventilators are available.

The Central region reported an average positivity rate of 1%. On average, there was an availability of 41% of medical/surgical beds, 54% of ICU beds and 82% of ventilators.

The Southern region had an average positivity rate of 3%. On average, there was an availability of 43% of medical/surgical beds, 53% of ICU beds and 75% of ventilators.
