To the Editor:
Black Lives Matter - Really?!
How can I take the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement seriously when it is allowed to be infiltrated by violent people?
How do you expect me to give it any support when looters destroy the very neighborhoods that need help?
How do you expect me to believe in BLM when good Black people (babies, children and adults) are being seriously injured or killed every day in the south and near west sides of Chicago by local Black perpetrators?
Do you want to matter to Black lives?
Go into the near west and the south sides of Chicago or any neighborhood in need for that matter. Volunteer time to doing something creative and helpful in the neighborhood. Do it with a smile and do it with an attitude of what you do matters.
Then just maybe you will get noticed by a conservative person like myself who struggles to see what good is being done.
Defund Police - Really?!
How can I possibly understand your desire to defund the police?
How can you ask me to be excited to eliminate an organization that I deeply believe is dedicated to supporting the common good of our towns and neighborhoods across the USA?
Black lives do matter to the overwhelming majority of police. These men and women go into neighborhoods to protect the good people from those that would do harm. They do it every day at great personal risk to themselves and their families who need them to return home each day.
Every organization, that wants to remain at the TOP of its game, needs continuous improvement. This is well understood by anyone who has worked in a great work environment. However, no one ever stated that any institution needed to be perfect in order to be justified.
If that were true, no organization would dare be created, no matter how altruistic the motivation.
Maybe we individually can reach out to a police officer and give them a smile and words of encouragement.
We could attempt to recognize how difficult the job of keeping the peace really is. We could tell them how much we appreciate what they do.
I believe that we will be amazed at what can come to fruition, when we fund the police with a simple Pay It Forward attitude.
