ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – A Chicago man agreed to plead guilty to 2019 armed robbery in Carpentersville in exchange for a 20-year prison term, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

Kane County Circuit Judge John Barsanti accepted the plea agreement from Antonio D. Young, 26, of the 5900 block of West Ohio Street, Chicago, on July 23.

Kane County Assistant State's Attorney Joseph Gay said in court that at about 5:30 p.m. Jan. 14, 2019, Young entered a gas station in the 1300 block of Kings Road, Carpentersville.

Young purchased a cigar and then waited for other customers to leave, according to the release. He approached the clerk again, asked what he could buy for 50 cents, pulled out a handgun and demanded money.

As the clerk attempted to retrieve a phone and push Young away, Young struck the clerk on the head and in the face with the gun, according to the release. Young then punched and knocked the clerk down, took a bottle of liquor and cash, and fled.

Barsanti ordered Young to pay $1,562.40 in restitution to cover the clerk's medical expenses and recommended Young receive treatment for substance use disorder while in prison.

Young is eligible for day-for-day sentencing, and so he will receive credit for 557 days served in the Kane County jail, where he had been held in lieu of a $100,000 bond since his arrest by Carpentersville police.

Armed robbery is a Class X felony, punishable by six to 30 years in prison if convicted.
