Algonquin man facing attempted murder charge after police say he tried to shoot woman

Police arrested a 40-year-old Algonquin man Wednesday on an attempted murder charge after authorities say he tried to fire a gun at a woman during a domestic dispute. Alvin W. Thompson, of the 1600 block of Southridge Trail, awaits transportation to the Kane County jail following a domestic situation that unfolded Tuesday, according to a news release from the Algonquin Police Department.

Algonquin police were called to Southridge Trail home about 3 a.m. Tuesday for the report of a domestic disturbance, according to the release.

Thompson is accused of choking and repeatedly hitting a woman with whom he was previously in a relationship, according to the release. He also was reported to have been armed with a handgun, which he attempted to fire in the woman’s direction. The woman suffered injuries that were not considered life threatening, according to the release.

Although Thompson left the scene before police were called, officers with the U.S. Marshals Service’s fugitive apprehension task force found him at a hotel in Lombard, Algonquin Deputy Police Chief Ryan Markham said.
