A McHenry man was sentenced to nine years in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to a 2019 charge of attempted predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.
Pedro Bautista, 36, accepted an offer from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to a single count of attempted predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, according to a news release.
The felony offense typically is punishable by four to 15 years in prison.
In exchange for Bautista's guilty plea, McHenry County prosecutors agreed to dismiss more serious charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, which carry a penalty of up to 30 years in prison.
In addition to his prison sentence, Bautista must register for life as a sex offender, McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge ordered.
Details surrounding the Aug. 1, 2019, allegations against Bautista were not immediately available. Charging documents including the original police complaint and indictment against Bautista have been sealed from public viewing because the case involves a child.
