Police arrested Monday a 35-year-old McHenry man accused of threatening to kill a woman and her infant son during a domestic dispute.
Santos B. Vasquez Diaz, of the 4500 block of Garden Quarter Road, is charged with aggravated domestic battery, restraint, domestic battery, interfering with the reporting of domestic violence and child endangerment.
The situation, which is alleged to have unfolded Sunday, caused the woman pain, bruising and red marks that required hospitalization, according to a McHenry Police Department criminal complaint.
The McHenry Police Department could not be reached for comment.
Vasquez Diaz is accused of pinning the woman onto her bed, climbing on top of her and placing his knees against her chest, according to the complaint.
He then choked her until she began to lose consciousness, according to the complaint. At the time the woman was holding her infant son, who fell when Vasquez Diaz pushed the woman on the bed, causing the child to become pinned beneath both adults' bodies, according to the complaint.
The child's condition was not available.
During the altercation, Vasquez Diaz threatened to kill the woman and child, according to the complaint. He also is accused of taking the woman's phone to prevent her from calling the police.
Vasquez Diaz faces between three and seven years in prison if convicted of the most serious offense, aggravated domestic battery.
He remained at the McHenry County Jail Tuesday afternoon on a $100,000 bond and is due back in court Wednesday morning.
