High school sports roundup for Saturday, Sept. 12

Woodstock North sophomore Hannah Pittman ran to a soggy victory Saturday morning and helped the Thunder hold off Marengo, 26-30, in their Kishwaukee River Conference girls cross country dual meet.

Pittman won in 23:22 as the Thunder placed four runners in the top six. Allie Goers (third), Maddie Manke (fifth), Hailey Drach (sixth) were North’s top four runners.

Ruby Escorza led Marengo, taking second place in 25:04. The Indians had Savannah Swanson in fourth and Jordan Brogdon in seventh.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Marengo 19, Woodstock North 41: At Marengo, Zach Secor was the first of six Indians’ runners in the top seven as they defeated the Thunder in their KRC dual meet.

Secor won in 17:04, followed by North’s Jorge Aragon in 18:06. Marengo’s Tommy Lulinski, Aaron Moehrlin, Patrick Signore, Preston Bailey and Marcus Ray grabbed the next five spots.

Marengo's Luke Chaffin, who won the KRC Preview Meet on Tuesday, sat out the race with some minor soreness.
