High school sports roundup for Thursday, Sept. 17

Crystal Lake South’s Will Stewart shot 35 as the Gators defeated Jacobs, 153-162, in their Fox Valley Conference boys golf dual Thursday at Randall Oaks in West Dundee.

Ricky Falbo shot 38, Tanner Coakley had a 39 and Nate Stewart and Spencer Shireman tied for the fourth-best score with 41s.

The Golden Eagles were led by Kyle Schutt’s 38 and Ryan Frantik with a 39. Jason Seahlom added a 40 and Justin Cunningham had a 45.

Prairie Ridge 171, Cary-Grove 181: At Chalet Hills in Cary, Eddie Winkelmann shot a 37 to lead the Wolves to an FVC win over the Trojans.

Joe Pokonosky shot a 43, Charlie Pettrone had a 44 and Levi Wagner had a 47 for Prairie Ridge.

Maddux Tarasievich led the Trojans with a 41. Nathan Jablonski shot a 45, Tom Fornelli had a 47 and Ryan Weaver added a 48.

Crystal Lake Central 169, McHenry 171: At McHenry Country Club, Bayden Hubacher shot a 40 and Ethan Bass added a 41 to lead the Tigers in a narrow FVC win over the Warriors.

Jack Benoit added a 42 and Dominic Hooper had a 46 for Central.

Brody Glauser shot 41 to lead the Warriors. Ethan Jensen (42), Sam Huff (43) and Will Currie (45) had McHenry’s other counting scores.

Huntley 165, Burlington Central 173: At Pinecrest in Huntley, Trevor Book led the Red Raiders with a 40 in their FVC win over the Rockets.

Danny Sheedy shot 41, while Josh Good, Cole Modrich and Evan Bendis all had 42s.

Burlington’s Tyson Malak took medalist honors with a 38. Chaz Rutke shot a 42.

Dundee-Crown 155, Hampshire 190: At Bonnie Dundee in East Dundee, Jake Russell fired a 2-under 34 to lead the Chargers to an FVC win over the Whip-Purs.

Ryan Girard shot 39, Chris Przybylak had a 40, and Aidan Svec and Yash Dulla each shot a 43.

Payton Yee led Hampshire with a 44 and Jake Laube added a 47.

Harvard 188, Marengo 199: At Marengo Ridge, Myles Brincks shot 42 and Aaron Saucedo added a 44 for the Hornets in their Kishwaukee River Conference dual victory.

Logan Garafol had a 49 and Jake Chupick shot a 53 for Harvard.

Tyler Nelsen led the Indians with a 43. Nick Walter shot 51, Riley Weiss had a 53 and Kyle Northcutt added a 55.

GIRLS GOLF

Marian Central 185, Johnsburg 189: At Boone Creek in McHenry, Johnsburg’s Ellie Johnson and Marian’s Lauren McNulty had a great battle for medalist honors, with Johnson edging McNulty by a stroke.

Johnson shot 38 and McNulty had a 39 to lead the Hurricanes’ team victory. Ella Notaro shot 46, Ava Notaro shot 48 and Ingrid Reyes added a 52.

Gracie Berthoud shot a 47 for the Skyhawks, Taylor Blake added a 51 and Riley Klotz had a 53.

Harvard 207, Marengo 256: At Marengo Ridge, Julia Chupich shot 48 to lead the Hornets to a KRC victory.

Emma Ackland added a 50, Joelle McMillan had a 51 and Alexis Lehmann and Reagan Witt both shot 58s.

Mary Grace Reed led the Indians with a 52.

Burlington Central 173, McHenry 209: At Boone Creek in McHenry, Emily Koh led the Rockets’ FVC win with a 39.

Madison Donovan led the Warriors with a 47. Aubree Lundin (51), Gracie Gasmann (55) and Aubrey Hunnig (56) had their other counting scores.

Jacobs 206, Hampshire 211: At Randall Oaks in West Dundee, the Golden Eagles held off the Whip-Purs in their FVC match.

GIRLS TENNIS

Crystal Lake Central 5, Hampshire 2: At Crystal Lake, Ellie McGinnis won at No. 1 and Katie Hopkins won at No. 3 singles as the Tigers (5-3, 5-3) defeated the Whip-Purs (4-8, 3-5) in their FVC match.

Haley Bernard and Emma Grindstaff (No. 1), Olivia Johnson and Megan Rapisarda (No. 2) and Ellyse Cruz and Lexi Holtkamp (No. 3) won at doubles for the Tigers.

The Whips’ victories came from Clare Hahn (No. 2 singles) and Evelyn Renaldi and Grace Rose (No. 4 doubles.).

Huntley 6, Crystal Lake South 1: At Crystal Lake, Michelle Barnvos and Kylie Phommasack remained unbeaten by winning at No. 1 doubles in straight sets as the Red Raiders beat the Gators in their FVC match.

Ruhi Gulati (No. 1), Elaina Hibbeler (No. 2) and Alessandra Rivera (No. 3) won at singles for Huntley (11-1, 7-1). Talia Duffy and Dyllan Cash (No. 2) and Ela Hontanosas and Aera Chong (No. 4) won at doubles.

Gracelyn Gabel and Marissa Baietto won at No. 3 doubles for South.

Cary-Grove 7, Dundee-Crown 0: At Carpentersville, twins Mary and Sara Greenwald played together and won at No. 2 doubles in straight sets as the Trojans improved to 5-1 in FVC play with a win over the Chargers.

C-G coach Therese Youel shuffled her lineup to change things up and allow the Greenwalds to play together. Kate Larry and Katie Jannusch, normally the No. 1 doubles team, won at Nos. 1 and 2 singles.

Annabella Gaffaney won at No. 3 singles, Chloe Sorensen and Lexie Soltis won at No. 1 doubles. Gwenn Moran and Nicki Carpatiuc (No. 3) and Brooke Iverson and Chloe Warner (No. 4) also won.

Marengo’s Lilly Johnson (No. 1) and Bethany Christiansen (No. 3) won at singles, and the Indians’ No. 4 doubles team ofRebekah Addis and Summer Kunzer picked up the Indians’ other win.

The Hurricanes got wins from Tess Meisner (No. 2 singles), Maggie Gillespie and Avery DiGangi (No. 2 doubles) and Beth Noonan and Maddie Miller (No.3 doubles).

Marengo 4, Woodstock 3: At Marengo, Lilly Johnson won at No. 2 singles to lead the Indians past the Blue Streaks in their KRC match on Wednesday.

Noelle Haas and Ashtyn Martin (No. 1), Theckla Sweat and Raina Hellyer (No. 3) and Jarelynn Lambert and Julissa Gonzalez (No. 4) won in doubles for the Indians.

The Streaks got wins at No. 1 singles (Ashley Peralta), No. 3 singles (Chase Simonton) and No. 2 doubles (Kelly Fischbach and Sarah Colby).

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Burlington Central double dual: Tommy Landt was first and Karson Hollander was third as the Tigers defeated Burlington (22-30) and Hampshire (24-32) in their FVC meet.

Hampshire and Burlington tied, with Hampshire winning on the sixth-runner tiebreaker.

Daniel Hamill was sixth for Central.

Hampshire’s Isai Morales was second and Aidan Gonzalez was fifth. Burlington’s Robert Perry was fourth.

Marengo 19, Richmond-Burton 37: At Richmond, Luke Chaffin, Zach Secor and Tommy Lulinski took the top three spots as the Indians won their KRC meet.

Sean Rockwell was fourth and Parker Sweeney was fifth to lead R-B.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Burlington Central double dual: Kylie Smith, Annie Ferrero and Gwyneth Brickey took the top three spots to lead Crystal Lake Central to wins over Burlington (23-32) and Hampshire (15-47) in their FVC meet.

Burlington’s Jocelyn Victoria was fourth, with three of her teammates right behind her. Burlington beat Hampshire, 15-40.

Richmond-Burton 15, Marengo 50: At Richmond, Amanda Allport won the race and the Rockets took the top seven spots in their KRC victory.

Catherine Miller, Rose Felch and Jane Wisniewski took the next three spots behind Allport.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Huntley 80, Cary-Grove 48: At Sage YMCA in Crystal Lake, the Red Raiders took first in seven of eight events in their FVC dual win over the Trojans on Wednesday. Ella Young won the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.63) and 100 butterfly (1:00.91) to keep Huntley undefeated at 5-0.

Also for the Raiders, Raquel Salinas won the 200 free (2:04.41), Skyler Arredia won the 50 free (26.78), Jillian Cherwin won the 500 free (5:31.75), Abigail DeVries won the 100 backstroke (1:04.75) and Cora Chesney won the 100 breaststroke (1:14.94).

Emily Marks won the 100 free (58.16) for C-G.

Jacobs co-op 72, Woodstock North co-op 56: At Woodstock, Addison Walker, Isabella Borta and Ella McClurg led the Thunder in a loss to the Golden Eagles.
