A 75-year-old Cary woman suffered non-life threatening injuries Friday when officials say she struck a police squad car that was pulling over another vehicle.
McHenry County sheriff's deputies responded to the crash at 12:20 p.m. in the area of Northwest Highway and Feinberg Drive, said McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Sandra Rogers, the department's spokeswoman.
A Cary police officer was conducting a traffic stop in the south lane and had the vehicle's lights activated when another driver, Kaaren Droese, struck the rear-end of the police car with her 2013 Toyota Avalon, Rogers said.
Droese was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington and cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, Rogers said. The crash resulted in no other injuries.
The rear of the of the police car was damaged as a result of the crash and the vehicle is temporarily out of service, Cary Police Chief Patrick Finlon said.
