McHenry County reports 15 new cases of COVID-19, two probable deaths

The McHenry County Department of Health reported 15 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and two probable deaths Tuesday.

This brings countywide totals to 4,445 confirmed cases, 118 related deaths and four probable deaths as of Tuesday evening. The county's recovery rate currently sits at 97%.

According to the McHenry County Health Department website, probable deaths are defined as situations in which COVID-19 caused or contributed to the death of a person, and the case was symptomatic, epi-linked to a confirmed case or outbreak but was not confirmed with a test.

There have been 236 probable deaths reported statewide through Sept. 18, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. Probable deaths are updated each Friday.

McHenry County residents have been tested a total of 72,411 times since the pandemic began, according to county-specific data collected by the IDPH.

The Kane County Health Department reported a total of 12,776 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 327 deaths Tuesday.

The Lake County Health Department reported a total of 16,488 confirmed cases and 463 related deaths.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported a total of 277,266 confirmed cases and 8,486 related deaths. So far, Illinois has conducted a total of 5,185,216 COVID-19 tests. The statewide recovery rate is 96%.

Among McHenry County ZIP codes, Crystal Lake (60014) had the highest number of COVID-19 cases with a total of 672 confirmed cases, according to county data. Woodstock (60098) follows with 669 cases.

The McHenry County health department reports only ZIP code data that is located within McHenry County, a department spokeswoman said. Any discrepancies between county and Illinois Department of Public Health numbers are likely because of the data's provisional nature and because each health department finalizes its data at different times, she said.

Here is the rest of the local breakdown of cases by ZIP code: Harvard (60033) 458; McHenry (60050) 414; Lake in the Hills (60156) 394; Algonquin (60102) 338; Huntley (60142) 290; Cary (60013) 284; Johnsburg and McHenry (60051) 213; Crystal Lake, Bull Valley and Prairie Grove (60012) 152; Marengo (60152) 152; Wonder Lake (60097) 117; Spring Grove (60081) 84; Island Lake (60042) 64; Fox River Grove (60021) 47; Richmond (60071) 46; Hebron (60034) 20; and Union (60180) nine.

All other ZIP codes have reported five cases or fewer, according to the health department.
