High school sports roundup for Wednesday, Sept. 30

Crystal Lake South's boys golf team finished perfect in Fox Valley Conference duals with a 152-162 victory Wednesday over crosstown rival Crystal Lake Central at Crystal Lake Country Club.

Ricky Falbo carded an even-par 35 for the Gators, who improved to 9-0 ahead of Thursday's FVC Tournament at Randall Oaks in West Dundee. Will Stewart added a 37, followed by Spencer Shireman and Bryce Sturm with 40s.

Eric Klutke led the Tigers with a 38. Christian Wakeford had a 40, Ethan Bass had a 41, and Bayden Hubacher, Jack Benoit and Kevin Craig all had 43s.


McHenry 92, Dundee-Crown 36: At McHenry, McHenry's Melisa Nava and D-C's Ali Fitzgerald both won multiple events in the FVC dual meet.

Nava won the 200-yard freestyle (2:13.16), 100 free (59.82) and 100 backstroke (1:06.90), and Fitzgerald won the 200 individual medley (2:22.18) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.14).

The Warriors also got wins from Paige Bantner in the 50 free (27.90), Andrea Avila in the 100 butterfly (1:06.23) and Victoria Sadowski in the 500 Free (5:49.05).


Crystal Lake Central 7, McHenry 0: At McHenry, Ellie McGinnis (No. 1), Natalia Piekunko (No. 2) and Katie Hopkins (No. 3) won at singles as the Tigers (9-4) beat the Warriors in their FVC match.

Haley Benard and Emma Grindstaff (No. 1), Olivia Johnson and Megan Rapisarda (No. 2), Ellyse Cruz and Lexi Holtkamp (No. 3) and Grace Cullian and Anika Richard (No. 4) won in doubles for Central.

Hampshire 6, Dundee-Crown 1: At Carpentersville, Clare Hahn won at No. 2 singles and Sophia Geraci won at No. 3 as the Whip-Purs (6-14, 4-9) defeated the Chargers in their FVC match.

Karolina Ryzka and May Kimura (No. 1), Taylor Sweet and Lauren Marckini (No. 2), Julianna Ernst and Alessandra Valladares (No. 3) and Evelyn Renaldi and Grace Rose (No. 4) won in doubles for the Whips.

D-C freshman Rujul Shah won at No. 1 singles.

Jacobs 5, Crystal Lake South 2: At Algonquin, Chloe Siegfort (No. 1) and Isha Desai (No. 2) each won their singles matches in two sets for the Golden Eagles in the FVC dual win victory.

Kaya Trumbo and Lara Santa-Ines (No. 1) and Sam Seibert and Alison Gerhardt (No. 2) won their doubles matches in straight sets, while Anya Wieczorek and Lissie Kontos won, 7-6, 3-6, 6-1, at No. 4 doubles for Jacobs.

Kate Howard won at No. 3 singles for the Gators, and Grace Gabel and Marissa Baietto won, 7-6, 6-4, at No. 3 doubles.

Cary-Grove 6, Prairie Ridge 1: At Cary, the Trojans swept all four doubles matches in their FVC dual. Winning for C-G at doubles were Kate Larry and Katie Jannusch (No. 1), Mary Greenwald and Chloe Sorensen (No. 2), Nicki Carpatiuc and Lexie Soltis (No. 3) and Chloe Warner and Brooke Iverson (No. 4).

The Trojans also got wins from Sara Greenwald (No. 1) and Gwenn Moran (No. 2) at singles. Prairie Ridge picked up a win at No. 3 singles from Lillian Manley.
