To the Editor:
Let’s look first at what Donald Trump is systematically doing to destroy the health of Americans. Climate change is real and unquestionably caused by the burning of fossil fuels.
By pulling out of the Paris agreement, that was led by the United States, and supported by every other industrialized country in the world, he showed that the word of the U.S. government could not be trusted and Implied we are not concerned about climate change.
Instead of being a leader in the quest for cleaner air and water, Trump is not even a follower. He boasts about rolling back dozens of regulations on emissions from automobiles and coal burning power plants that would have saved 30,000 premature deaths per year.
This is reckless and inexcusable - whether you believe in man-made climate change or not. Finally, he is in court right now trying to completely destroy the health care act that provides medical care to some 30 million people, even though he does not have a plan to replace it.
His handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has been a complete failure, in spite of the high grades he gives his performance. While being aware of the seriousness of the situation, he called it a hoax, said summer heat would destroy the virus, said it was the states’ responsibility, (“I am just a backup”), and failed to provide adequate supplies to health care workers and testing to the public.
He continues to defy advice of medical professionals and scientists by not wearing a face mask and holding massive election rallies in crowded quarters without requiring masks.
Regarding his destruction of our democracy, he is trying to rig the presidential election by drastically weakening the postal service, tearing down voting by mail, even though that’s how he votes, and encouraging efforts by Republican governors to do all they can to restrict voting. He himself has said that if we had open and fair elections, no Republican candidate would ever be elected again.
Four more years of Trump and his supporting lackeys in Congress would mean much poorer air and water, more expensive health care, and a move to the kind of fascist government Trump idolizes. Vote them all out.
