A McHenry man faces felony charges after police say he hit and choked a pregnant woman during a domestic situation Sunday.
Oscar A. Navarro-Guevara, 27, is charged with aggravated battery and domestic battery, court records show. The most serious offense, aggravated battery, typically is punishable by two to five years in prison.
Officers with the McHenry Police Department responded Sunday to the 1900 block of North Orleans Avenue, after the alleged victim called 911, McHenry Police Public Affairs Officer Patrick Polidori said in an email.
Navarro-Guevara is accused of hitting the woman in the face with an open hand and pulling her hair, according to a four-count criminal complaint. He's additionally accused of placing his hands around the woman's neck and choking her, court records show. Navarro-Guevara knew the woman was pregnant at the time, according to the complaint.
A judge on Monday appointed the McHenry County Public Defender's Office to represent Navarro-Guevara on the charges.
He remained at the McHenry County Jail Monday on a $15,000 bond and is expected back in court Thursday morning.
