Round Lake man killed in two-vehicle crash Saturday near Antioch

A 39-year-old Round Lake man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in unincorporated Antioch about 4 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Based on a preliminary investigation, the Round Lake man was driving a Ford Taurus north on Route 45 north of Route 173 and tried to pass a Dodge Caliber, also heading north.

The 23-year-old driver of the Dodge, from Bristol, Wisconsin, swerved toward the Ford, according to the release, causing the Ford driver to maneuver toward the shoulder of the southbound lanes.

The Ford driver then lost control, according to the release, and while trying to correct, the vehicle struck the Dodge, causing the Ford to roll and its driver to be ejected from the car.

The Ford driver was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries and later died, according to the release. A 36-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl who were both passengers in the Ford were taken to the same hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the release. The driver of the Dodge was taken to St. Catherine's Hospital in Kenosha, Wisconsin, with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The Lake County Coroner's Office responded to the scene and an autopsy on the Ford driver from Round Lake is pending, according to the release.

The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigation Unit, according to the release.
