To the Editor:
There are a number of letters coming out in support of each of the candidates for Judge and the campaigns are all pounding a message of ‘Integrity.’
Being elected to a judicial seat isn’t like being elected to the positions we normally think of. The standards that attorneys are expected to hold themselves and their campaign to are significantly higher than in ‘normal’ campaigns.
It’s very hard to find anything factual about judicial candidates to help you understand who they are. But there is a way that you can see how they are going about trying to win their seat. You can look up their campaign finance reports as they are on the internet in the public domain.
One thing that you will find if you look up the campaigns for Hansen, Gervais and Gerhardt is that they all had the same ‘Top Expense’ and it was to a company whose tagline is ‘Others play politics. We do politics.'
Three candidates all hired the same political consulting firm and combined, paid over $100,000 for political consulting services.
If you look up the same Ridings, Vonau, Klein information you will see that there are no political consulting expenses. Standard signs, postage and websites but not political consultants.
Running for judge is not political, but someone should probably tell the incumbent appointed judges that appear willing to do anything to keep those seats.
