To the Editor:
Home of the Sparrow will be closing its Sparrow’s Nest Thrift Store and Donation Center located at 781 S. Randall Road in Algonquin, effective Oct. 31.
The decision was made not to renew the lease thus closing the store. For the past eight years, the store had to overcome many obstacles, such as road construction on Randall Road, lack of parking for shoppers and donors, the ease of entry to the location, and more recently COVID-19. These were all factors in the decision.
Home of the Sparrow operates six additional Sparrow’s Nest Thrift Stores and Donation Centers located in McHenry, Woodstock, Cary, Palatine, Mundelein and Third Lake. Its seventh, called Community Threads Resale Store, is located in Arlington Heights.
Donations will still be accepted at the other locations Home of the Sparrow operates. Many great finds will be available as well! Home of the Sparrow is grateful for the many shoppers and donors who have come to support the store and the agencies mission over the years.
Home of the Sparrow provides transitional shelter, housing, rental assistance, outreach and case management services to homeless women and children. Revenue from the stores go back into supporting Home of the Sparrow’s mission to provide hope, opportunity and support that empowers homeless women and children as they journey from homelessness to self-sufficiency.
