Letter: Yvonne Barnes for County Board

To the Editor:

I would like to express my strong support for Yvonne M. Barnes to retain her seat on the McHenry County Board representing District 1. I have known Yvonne since her days as a Cary Village Trustee.

As a resident of Trout Valley, I have found her to be open to working together and concerned about the common issues affecting the region. I have sought her input on several issues and she has always been supportive and willing to help.

What I appreciate is that she is not a single-issue candidate.I agree that she is an advocate for the taxpayers. She has a proven history of fighting for decreased spending and property tax relief.

However, she shares passions and cares about other burdens that impact the residents of southeastern McHenry County. I know from personal experience that she recognizes the benefits of open and green spaces, appreciates the traffic and pedestrian safety issues found in the most populous corner of the county, and, most recently, acknowledges the need to review and improve upon the county’s pandemic response.

We have become accustomed to politicians telling us what we want to hear.I have no patience for this. I want to see a dedication to public service that results in action and commitment to making our communities better. Please hold the grandstanding and chest-beating.

It is unseemly. If you want someone who just works hard, looks our for your best interests, and keeps her head down, vote Yvonne Barnes.
