To the Editor:
The constant reporting in your newspaper of COVID-19 statistics that do nothing to inform your readers of the actual threat of the virus is reprehensible.
The COVID-19 virus is a pathogen that is transmitted by air and touch. Therefore, there will always be an increase in new infection cases exponentially until all the population is infected or immune. To constantly report new cases does nothing to inform the public of the seriousness of the threat. It only instills fear in the uneducated.
If you truly want to inform the public of the threat before them, you should only report new cases admitted to the ICU, and new cases that resulted in death.
Also, in order to give the public an accurate assessment of the relative threat to their family, you should ,at the same time, report the daily deaths due to:1. heart disease 2. cancer 3. accidents-car and home 4. pneumonia etc.
By doing this, you can truly inform your readers of the relative risk that their families are exposed to.
The purpose of a newspaper should be to inform readers, not instill unnecessary fear.
