Editors receive may serious or angry letters from readers and citizens. And with all the COVID-19 worries and the contentious election, I felt a “feel good” story would be appreciated.
It also celebrates another group of essential workers – Larry Zurek, street division superintendent, and his team that help keep Crystal Lake looking great.
I am a member of the Countryside Garden Club. For many years, the club has planned and maintained the gardens at the intersection of Brink and Walkup in Crystal Lake. We were having our fall clean-up day and one of our members lost a hearing aide! All 13 of us searched diligently through the leaves and dirt. We even dumped full compost bags with no luck. We even returned later that day and searched.
Joe Ryan from Larry’s team stopped to pickup the bags and asked what we were doing. When we explained the situation, he also started to search. He walked maybe three steps in a different direction and picked up the hearing aide! We were overjoyed it was found.
Again, thanks to Larry, Joe and all the city workers who keep our city beautiful.
