Longtime Woodstock Mayor Brian Sager, a Democrat, said his race was "certainly over" and he accepted the result of his District 63 contest with incumbent Rep. Steve Reick, R-Woodstock, shortly after midnight Wednesday.

Reick was leading in his bid for re-election with about 55% of the vote as of 12:30 a.m., compared to 45% for Sager, according to early McHenry County Clerk's Office tallies.

Reick declined to comment.

According to the McHenry County Clerk’s Office, just over 161,000 registered voters cast ballots so far this election and as many as 18,000 mail-in ballots could still be returned. As of 10 p.m., nearly 158,000 ballots had been counted and the results released online. Those ballots included those cast in-person early or on Election Day or those sent by mail that had been received by end of the day Monday.

All mail-in ballots postmarked by Nov. 3 are eligible to be counted, County Clerk Joe Tirio said in an interview last week. The election's final results in McHenry County will be communicated on Nov. 18.

McHenry County includes parts of five Illinois House of Representatives districts. District 63 covers the largest portion of the county, encompassing most of its northern and all of its western portions.

While trailing, Republican incumbent District 66 Rep. Allen Skillicorn on social media just before 3 a.m. congratulated his Democratic opponent Suzanne Ness, who held a lead.

"Congratulations to Ms. Ness! I truly wish her well," Skillicorn tweeted. "The demographics of the suburbs are changing because many Republicans are moving to [Tennessee, Florida and Texas]. They are leaving for lower taxes, booming economies, better schools and less crime. Chicago ruins Illinois."

A McHenry County Board member, Ness, D-Crystal Lake, was leading in the House District 66 race with 52% of the votes counted so far, while Skillicorn, of Sleepy Hollow, had 48%, according to unofficial results from McHenry and Kane counties Tuesday evening.

"I would like to thank the voters of District 66 for electing me as their next State Representative. I’m proud of the campaign we’ve run, putting safety first while delivering our message of leadership, service, and accountability," Ness tweeted midday Wednesday. "... No matter who you voted for at the ballot box, I stay committed to representing the entire 66th community."

District 66 runs from Crystal Lake and Lakewood in the north through Lake in the Hills, Huntley and Algonquin into Kane County, where it also includes Gilberts, Sleepy Hollow and West Dundee.

In the District 64 race, state Rep. Tom Weber, R-Lake Villa, was leading with about 62% of the vote, while Leslie Armstrong-McLeod, D-Fox Lake, was trailing with 38%, according to unofficial ballot counts from the Lake and McHenry county clerks as of Wednesday morning.

The Lake County Clerk's Office added thousands of mail-in and early votes to its totals Wednesday morning. Additional mail-in ballots will be added by the Lake County Clerk's Office after 5 p.m. Tuesday, the clerk's office said in a message on its online unofficial results. Late-arriving mail-in ballots and validated provisional ballot totals will be added Nov. 17 after 5 p.m.

Weber expressed confience his lead would hold as additions are made to the tally.

"I thank the people of the 64th District for their continued support of my service as their state representative. Illinois faces many challenges, and I will always be a voice for my constituents to ensure their tax dollars are used effectively and efficiently," Weber said in a statement to the Northwest Herald.

District 64 stretches from Bull Valley in the west, along Crystal Lake's northern edge and into Lake Villa in Lake County.

In the District 52 race, Martin McLaughlin, R-Barrington Hills, appeared the likely winner with about 55% of the votes counted so far, while Marci Suelzer, D-Island Lake, had 43%, according to unofficial results released by clerks for the counties of McHenry, Lake, Kane and Cook, all of which have parts in the statehouse district. Green Party candidate Alia Sarfraz had just more than 2% of the vote.

"It was very humbling and exciting to see all four counties won by my campaign and it appears the margin of victory is around 10% or greater," McLaughlin, the village president of Barrington Hills, said in a statement. "I am glad that voters and residents in the 52nd District checked my record of reducing spending and taxes for my local community and overwhelmingly responded to it."

District 52, which is currently represented by outgoing state Rep. David McSweeney, includes Island Lake, Cary and Algonquin and runs south to South Barrington.

In the District 65 race, Martha Paschke, D-Geneva, conceded Thursday evening in her race with incumbent state Rep. Dan Ugaste, R-Geneva.

Ugaste was leading with about 52% of the vote, while Paschke had about 48% of the vote, according to unofficial results from the clerks for McHenry and Kane counties.

"While we may have lost the race, we have a victory to claim by successfully pushing issues, such as common sense gun reform, health care and social injustice, to the forefront of this campaign," Paschke said in a statement. "We have reminded our representative that he answers to us, his constituents, and we will not remain quiet on the issues that matter."

House District 65 includes all of Pingree Grove and portions of Batavia, St. Charles, Geneva, South Elgin, Elgin, Hampshire and Huntley.
