A 29-year-old Belvidere man was found dead in unincorporated Marengo on Sunday afternoon hours after crashing his motorcycle, police said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, together with the Marengo Police Department and McHenry County Conservation District Police, responded to reports of a single-vehicle motorcycle crash about noon Sunday, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The crash occurred on the 25000 block of River Road in unincorporated Marengo Township and is suspected to have happened sometime in the overnight hours between Saturday night and Sunday morning, according to the release.

After an initial investigation, police believe that the 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling east on River Road when it failed to turn with a curve in the road, causing the motorcycle to drive off the roadway.

The motorcycle drove off the south side of the road before hitting a fence and turning over, ejecting the driver from the motorcycle, according to the release.

The driver had not been wearing a helmet and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased on the scene, according to the news release.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner‘s Office still are investigating the incident.

Anyone with information on the crash is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 8150338-2144.
