3 Ways Wainscoting and Specialty Trim Can Enhance Your Home

SPONSORED

Architectural details are smaller pieces of an overall design, but can provide high impact in a room.  They add visual interest and texture, and help define certain building styles.  In a home, adding columns, niches, molding, and wainscoting, among other details, can give your space the personality and design that fits your lifestyle.  Here are 3 ways wainscoting and specialty trim can enhance your home:

1.  Wainscoting is paneling that lines the lower part of the walls in a room.  This decorative treatment usually goes as high as chair rail height, but can be raised higher for a more elegant wall treatment.  Wainscoting is usually made from wood, but can also be created from medium-density fiberboard (MDF), engineered PVC plastic, or embossed metal.  It looks terrific in dining rooms, dens, living rooms, bedrooms, and even on stairway walls and in entryways, which may otherwise lack architectural interest.

2.  Crown molding is traditionally used to finish the top edge of a wall where it meets the ceiling.  It can be thick, thin, or layered, and comes in a variety of styles, including dental molding.  It can also be used to finish the upper cabinets in your kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room.  It appears to add height to your ceiling, and provides an attractive detail in your living space.

3.  Crown molding and other specialty trims can also be used on fireplace mantels and bookshelves.  It can be used to hide wiring in a room so you don't have to put additional holes in the wall.  In a finished basement, it helps the lowest level appear to be a more seamless extension of the rest of the home.

Regardless of the style of wainscoting or molding you select, it will transform the rooms in your home.  It will help increase the value of your home, and will add an elegant touch to your living space.  For more information about specialty moldings and trim, please contact:
