Winter in Chicagoland seems to last longer every year. When the cold starts creeping in as early as November, and hangs around until late March, it makes for a seemingly endless bleak and bitterly cold season. Home State Bank’s Senior Class Club, for ages 55 or better, has scheduled an amazing Winter Getaway to help you escape the snow, ice, and freezing temperatures!
The adventure begins on Saturday, February 27th, with limo transportation from McHenry County to O’Hare Airport. After a non-stop flight to San Jose, Costa Rica, you will spend the next 8 days touring this fabulous country, including visits to Tortuguero National Park, Poas Volcano National Park, the Danaus Ecocenter, and Santa Rosa National Park. You’ll experience the visual wonders of the biodiverse rainforests via bus trips, boat rides, and the Rainforest Aerial Tram.
The local fauna will be highlighted, as you’ll observe waterfowl, caimans, iguanas, basilisks, hummingbirds, and butterflies. Sloths, frogs, turtles, toucans, and monkeys can also be seen. You’ll be amazed at the beauty of the lush tropical gardens and vegetation. Don’t forget extra batteries for your camera, you’ll be taking many pictures!
There will be opportunities for relaxation, including free time in Tamarindo Beach, and visits to the historically significant towns of Santa Rosa and Liberia City.
The temperature in Costa Rica during February and March, depending on location, averages 75-85 degrees. Evenings cool off in the 60s, and the average rainfall during these two months is the lowest of the entire year. It’s the perfect time to visit, and to escape the dreary cold, snow, and ice here in McHenry County!
