If your car is giving you problems it’s time to take it into the shop for a look-see.
While you may not know what the problem is, here are three questions you should ask your mechanic to keep you on top of how your vehicle works. Why? Because being an informed car owner is important in keeping your ride in top running condition.
1. “CAN YOU SHOW ME THE PROBLEM?”
Most mechanics are not out to rip you off, says mentalfloss.com. A trusted mechanic will always show you where your car’s problem is and what part is in need of repair or replacement, if you ask. This might not be possible if the problem lies with your car’s electronics, but, it’s still a good policy to ask. Having a visual aid will also make a tech’s explanation easier to understand, says Mental Floss.
2. “WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I DON’T FIX THIS?”
Be sure to ask your mechanic what is likely to happen if you don’t fix a problem right away. If a timing belt is getting worn it may last you for several thousand more miles until it breaks, says automatic.com. If your brakes are giving you trouble, it’s imperative that you get them fixed immediately to avoid a possible tragedy.
3. WHAT REPAIRS WILL I NEED IN THE NEAR FUTURE?”
This is always a good question to ask when you take your vehicle into the shop for any issues. If your mechanic finds a laundry list of problems, depending on the age and condition of your car, you might be ahead of the game financially to invest your money in another vehicle, rather than spending it on repairs, adds automatic.com
Remember, don’t be afraid to ask your mechanic questions. A good one will be happy to share the information.
