Veterans Day is a very important federal holiday that is celebrated each year on November 11th. This national holiday honors all the men and women, living or deceased, who have served their country honorably during times of peace and times of war. One terrific way to celebrate the holiday is to patronize a business that is veteran-owned.
Doug Huckbody, owner of Battle House Laser Combat in Lake Barrington, along with several members of his family, served in the military over a span of many years. "Most of my uncles, many of whom were dairy farmers, fought in World War II while their wives and children stayed behind to take care of the farms," explained Huckbody. "My father served in the Navy during the Korean War, and some of my cousins served in Vietnam."
Huckbody is also a veteran, having continued his family's military connection by serving in the Cold War. "My baby sister, Dana, is a former Army Captain and a graduate of West Point," he added. "My eldest son, Darek, served two deployments in Afghanistan. We're very proud to have so many veterans in our family."
During the Veterans Day weekend this year, veterans will be able to play tactical laser combat for free. "We want to do our part to honor and recognize anyone who has served in our nation's military," said Huckbody. "If a veteran comes to Battle House over Veterans Day weekend, they'll play for free if they're accompanied by a paying guest."
Huckbody makes an effort to employ veterans as Field Marshals, when possible. "Field Marshals referee and monitor the battles, offering advice and helping guests develop their team strategy," he explained. "Veterans bring a unique perspective to the communication skills that are required to be successful at tactical laser combat. Our customers enjoy learning from our employees with military experience."
