The COVID-19 pandemic likely has many people wondering what to do about their planned spring break trips and summer vacations. Are you one of them? Here are three things Crystal Lake Travel recommends:
1. Heed the advice of public health officials
Because travel alerts can change frequently, make sure to pay attention to advisories from both the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For instance, the CDC currently recommends postponing or canceling travel to countries that have a Level 3 Travel Health Notice such as China and Italy. The CDC also recommends that travelers who are at higher risk for COVID-19 complications, including older adults and those with serious chronic medical conditions, avoid all cruise travel and nonessential air travel. Those who are traveling throughout the United States should check to see if COVID-19 is spreading at their destination.
2. Take precautions
If you plan to travel to a destination where the risk of COVID-19 is thought to be low, take precautions to avoid infection. The CDC recommends avoiding contact with sick people; refraining from touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands; and washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains 60%–95% alcohol.
3. Use a travel agency
Working with a travel agency such as Crystal Lake Travel can help you navigate through the uncertainty. The agents know which areas are safe for travel and which are not, as well as the arrangements that need to be made if a postponement is necessary. To that end, bypass the hassle of travel planning by leaving it to the experts.
