Figuring out your next step can be scary – but financing your education doesn’t have to be.
If your goals involve pursuing a new degree or certificate, McHenry County College offers a variety of scholarships tailored to every facet of our diverse student body. Scholarships are available to all students regardless of FAFSA award status—and because they are gift aid, do not have to be repaid.
High-Impact Scholarships, which include the Presidential Talent Scholarships, Board of Trustees Scholarships, and Founding Faculty Scholarships, each award recipients with 60 (in-district) credit hours—some even covering other fees and books.
Students interested in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) career may also be eligible for a needs-based $10,000 STEM scholarship which covers the majority of MCC tuition.
Applications for High-Impact and STEM scholarships are due by April 7, 2020, and winners will be announced no later than April 24. Requirements and more information about these scholarships can be found at www.mchenry.edu/mccscholarships.
The Friends of MCC Foundation also offers numerous student scholarships and awarded $310,000 to 190 students last year alone.
“It’s easy to apply,” said Katie Gaskill, coordinator of events and outreach for the Foundation. “Students only have to fill out one online form and the application will automatically qualify them for any scholarships that meet their criteria.”
In addition to the application form, some scholarships require an additional essay or letter of recommendation. Students interested in joining a sports team at MCC may also be eligible for athletic scholarships.
“We recommend taking the time to write truly thoughtful essays—the better your essay, the better your chances!” said Gaskill. “You can stop by the Sage Learning Center located in the Library to review your essay and application. You don’t need an appointment, and it’s completely free.”
The Foundation accepts applications for scholarships starting February 17 and closes April 7, 2020. Scholarships are awarded in May for the Fall 2020 semester. Apply now and learn more at www.mchenry.edu/scholarships.
