Prepare for a Rewarding Career as a 911 Dispatcher in less than 12 weeks

SPONSORED

911 dispatchers are often the first group to respond in the event of an emergency. These life-saving professionals are not only responsible for quickly gathering information and dispatching emergency personnel, but also provide instructions on medical interventions, prioritize calls, and take control of stressful situations while remaining calm and organized.

This fast-paced career is an ideal fit for those who are interested in healthcare, find themselves keeping calm under pressure, and are drawn to working with people. Opportunities in this field are increasing as well—the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts employment of dispatchers to grow by eight percent by 2026.

McHenry County College’s Emergency Dispatcher program offers the training needed to pursue this exciting career in only a few months.

“Students listen to real 911 recordings and learn the essentials of the technology, policies, and procedures they’ll use to respond to emergencies,” said Justin DeBolt, coordinator of career training programs at MCC. “Using scenario-based experiences, our students master the most efficient ways of identifying and translating critical information in the minutes and seconds that make a difference in these situations.”

At the end of the program, students are prepared to take the National Communications Certification Exam, which is included in the price of the course.

In addition to its Emergency Dispatcher program, MCC also offers Emergency Medical Technician and Fire Science AAS degrees and certificates.

MCC’s spring semester Emergency Dispatcher class starts on February 5. Those interested can register by visiting www.mchenry.edu/mymcc or calling (815) 455-8588.
