While the 23rd annual Bob Blazier Run for the Arts had to be postponed earlier this year due to the pandemic crisis, the new race date is fast approaching. On Sunday, September 20th, beginning at 8:00 a.m., runners and walkers will take to the streets for the 5K run or the 1M run/walk in beautiful downtown Crystal Lake.
This cherished event was first organized 24 years ago by the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce to honor Bob Blazier's unparalleled community accomplishments. Blazier selected Raue Center, a 501(c)3 organization, to benefit from the proceeds of this terrific community-building event.
This year, runners and walkers can choose to participate in the traditional 5K run or 1M walk/run with extra safety precautions in place. Understandably, some may still feel uncomfortable in gatherings, so the Blazier Run is offering a VIRTUAL RUNNER option. Participants will still receive a t-shirt and a chance to win a coveted Bob-Bobblehead trophy. While registering online for the race, choose the virtual runner option. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to give your QUARANTEAM details, then run the race between September 18th - 20th and join in the fun!
"This year's Bob Blazier Run has had some significant hurdles, and we feel incredibly fortunate to continue the tradition we started in Bob's name 23 years ago," said James Knight, Economic Development Manager for Raue Center. "Amongst other safety measures, we'll start the race in waves, keeping groups small and asking everyone not actively running to wear a mask so everyone feels safe and comfortable. We've been pushing the "virtual runner" option since our website went live back in December; this is a great way for anyone wanting to support Raue Center to show their love and support, even if they're not comfortable gathering outside our historic theater. Everyone can take part in this fun, healthy, family-friendly event!"
